Pumpkin, Turkey, and Santa Claus~~
Pumpkin, Turkey, and Santa Claus are just a few of the decorations that many are displaying during the holiday season. For me, I love to decorate for Christmas, but I forget about the fall decorations. I hate to say this, but many times I have forgotten where they were or just did not feel like going into the attic prior to Black Friday, tis the season.
As a home and closet organizer I have assisted in putting away many holiday decorations for my clients. At times we hurry to decorate. There are times that we know we have the decorations, but it seems easier to run and buy more. After all they are so cute and were on sale. A “just gotta” have item.
Somewhere along the line there is this moment of “I’ve got too much stuff or can you help me get it organized?” As an empty nester and in my 50’s; I do not want to climb in my attic. That job was for my sons and now that I have an organizing business, my assistants do that. Oh, the joy of youth and its strength.
Across the board, people of all ages have decided that they too do not like carrying heavy bins of holiday decorations up and down a creaky ladder to get into the attic space.
The best way to handle this dilemma is:
- After Halloween, put the decorations in an orange container and toss the stuff that you didn’t use
- As you decorate for Thanksgiving, purchase a green container for storage
- Christmas decorations will need red containers. It is ok to have 2 sets of decorations, that’s all and save a few memory items
- If the attic is a challenge for storage, find closets in your home, maybe under the stair case to store decorations, keep a list of items that you have and the number of bins. This will prevent impulse purchases and extra clutter.
Enjoy the wonderful season of celebrations.
