Finding the Perfect Christmas Gift ~~
Finding the perfect gift causes me anxiety; especially buying for the person who “has it all”. My husband is the type that he will buy himself a gift, 3 weeks before Christmas. Sigh.. All kidding aside it can be a challenge. Will they like the sweater, do they already have that item, or what do they even need or want?!
When my sons got married and moved out a couple of years ago, all Christmas decorations relocated out the attic and into a now guest bedroom. This was my attempt at simplifying and organizing things. Also, we no longer had our minions to climb in and out the attic!
Last month I began shopping. I purchased a few items and felt pleased. My friend owns Sugar Land Antiques, shameless plug, but she has the cutest gift and décor items as well as antiques. Back to my story. On Saturday, December 2, I started to pull the decorations out of the closet. Yes, I am one of those people who do not believe in decorating for Christmas until Thanksgiving is over. In the back-right corner of the closet, I noticed 3 shopping bags. Yep, you guessed it, gifts I purchased last year that I forgot about. Laughing I thought, “I found the perfect gift and it was in my closet”!
Now to my tips and the moral of this story:
- Before you shop, check your closets for hiding gifts
- Just ask the person, “Give me some suggestions on what you would like, you’re going to get a gift, so you might as well like it!” (True story)
- No No’s – unless you know their taste, size or collections of items; refrain from clothes, decorations, and stationary (As a Professional Organizer, I have seen the clutter)
