Don’t Be In A Hurry ~~
Who hasn’t heard the phrase, “Don’t be in a hurry “, from a well-meaning adult or mentor ? My husband does carpentry work as a hobby. He would say to me “don’t be in a hurry, measure twice and cut once. If you’re in a hurry and you cut too much, you can’t get the wood back.” Mistakes cost you time and money when you are in a hurry .
Last year I had this amazing opportunity present itself. As a Houston home organizer; it was something that I had dreamed of. They said, “no costs after the initial fees”. Being totally excited; I jumped in full throttle. My motto has always been, if the door is open, run through it. I still believe in that, but there may be a moment of red flags. Red means stop.
However; I was so caught up in the potential that I ignored the red flags. By the time I walked away it had cost me dearly. I lost a lot of money, time, and precious sleep lost over the stress of it all. Instead of wallowing in my lost, I had heard that small voice of God say, “I told you I have something else for you”. I was like “ok, no regrets, lessons learned, strength gained, my faith has kept me”. Move on.
Ask The Right Questions ~~
It’s easier said than done to not be in a hurry. After all you don’t want to lose the opportunity and moment in time. Remember that you must pay attention to the red flags.
I sat with a business friend over coffee and she shared her recent challenge with. A potential client called her to create a project. She began to ask him questions and his reply was, “I know what I need, let’s just do this”. He then gave her a very large check. Unfortunately, the project went sideways quickly with a lot of hurt feelings and unmet expectations. She said to me, “I was in a hurry and excited about the money and didn’t ask the right questions.”
Life is filled with all sorts of opportunities. It can feel exciting, but make sure you ask the right questions. Don’t be afraid and don’t be in a hurry that you may lose a wonderful opportunity. Remember you may have something better waiting for you.
