Business Owner ~~
Being a business owner was a dream of mine since about 1986. Buying magazines that had featured articles of business women inspired me. “What do I have to offer or what can I invent to be one of those women”, I wondered. A Time and Place for Everything, LLC was launched in 2008; my services include home organizing. November 2007 is when I began to write my first published book, My Life is a Mess: Organizing 101.
The first few years in were totally exciting as I moved about the community and seeing the opportunities. I wasn’t just walking through open doors; I was running through them. They were everywhere and I was doing everything that I had dreamed of as a girl; the galas, working with politicians, sports and TV figures, and successful business people. By 2010, I published an award-winning book on organizing, speaking at events, and making TV appearances. In 2011, I realized I needed assistance on how to run a business. Hiring a coach was one of my best investments. Running a business can be gratifying, but it takes a lot of work.
The other day as I was blogging the other day, I realized that my professional organizing business saved my life. Until I about it in my second book; Uncluttered: Discovering Strength and Purpose in the Chaos of Life, many people had no idea about the circumstances that had brought me to starting A Time and Place for Everything. My best friend had been killed upon returning to New Orleans after Katrina, my son’s had graduated, and I felt no purpose in life.
Two thing are amazing to me: being surrounded with like-minded people who help and encourage me and the opportunity to meet and help so many wonderful people. Oh, and coffee. Despite all of the challenges; this is a dream come true for me.
