Wouldn’t it be nice to have a clutter free desk and be productive? I do, but it’s not always reality because I’m a piler. An organizing client asked me, “What is a piler”. I said, “They’re two people in this world; those who just take their pieces of paper and stack them in piles all over their desk and there are others who filed things promptly.
Whenever I read great articles online, I print them for ideas and print emails of things to do. Then I put the paper on my desk. In addition, I have on my desk: mail, books, notepads, and my planner. I only file things when I have taken action, want to save for reference, or need to save for tax purposes.
With a full schedule at times
I must admit that my desk may get a little bit neglected for a couple of weeks and look very messy. So many things can be accomplished with our smart phones and iPhones that I don’t even have to always be at my computer or desk, but I digress. My favorite and most productive thing that I like to do is to review that stack of paperwork on my desk and either discard it or put a binder clip on stacks with like topics. I then place a colorful sticky note on top to remind me what I’m supposed to do with that stack. Examples of my topics would be: tips on social media, business tips, upcoming speaking engagements, blog ideas, tips to share to my clients and on social media, bills to pay, update my planner and to do list.
Once all my stacks or in neat binder clips or paper clips it becomes easier for me to be productive. I can then look at the stacks and decide what needs to be taken care of or what I want to do first. Being intentional is the best use of my time and I love having a clear spot on my desk.
