What are you holding onto ~~
What are you holding onto is a thought provoking question to ask someone. As a home organizer , I have seen a lot of interesting things that people hold onto. Items that I have seen include: rocks, dolls, dried flowers, glasses, dishes, children’s artwork, bottle caps, plastic cups, key chains, cake-takers, and clothes.
When I ask my clients, “what does this mean to you?”, I am met with an array of emotions. For some people, it represents a happy memory or the last memory of a now deceased loved one. Then there are reasons that include fear and guilt. I have heard: “I might need that” or “my sister will be mad if I get rid of the gift she gave me”.
What I have observed is that sometimes our outward surroundings can be a reflection of what is going on the inside. It is what we feel that we can control. Too many times the more we hold onto, it becomes clutter. At some point, we are no longer able to control it.
I began to see in my own life that I was holding onto negative beliefs. Things that were said to me growing up. I was allowing clutter in my mind to stop me from my dreams and goals.
At some point in our lives we should look at which items and beliefs we want to keep. The things that no longer bring us joy we may need to release. It is then that we can achieve our potential and goals in life.
Let’s get started. No more excuses. We can do it! It may feel hard at first, but it will get easier.
