Do you stare into space unable to speak~~
Over the years I have had moments, deep in thought, where I would stare off into space. At times, difficult memories would float around and I would try to reset my thoughts. My friend would say, “what are you thinking about?” I felt stuck and unable to get the words out. Her persistent, but well-meaning next statement would be “spit out, come on, tell me what you are thinking about”. There were times that the words would tumble out with a rush of emotions.
Hi to all my friends, the ones I know and the ones that I haven’t met. I love blogging. I love sharing my fun as well as my struggles. It does my heart good to hear from someone across the country to say, “thanks for sharing”. Today, I would like to take a moment to say thank you to Lady Gaga for sharing her story. It’s a funny thing when someone shares the same thing you are going through, it helps to feel you are normal and not alone.
Lady Gaga wrote, “I also experience something called dissociation which means that my mind doesn’t want to relive the pain so “I look off and I stare” in a glazed over state. As my doctors have taught me, I cannot express my feelings because my pre-frontal cortex (the part of the brain that controls logical, orderly thought) is overridden by the amygdala (which stores emotional memory) and sends me into a fight or flight response. My body is in one place and my mind in another…When this happens I can’t talk.” — bornthisway.foundation/personal-letter-gaga/#sthash.ItrokOSE.dpuf
I also struggle with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder; due to trauma that occurred as a child. As a home organizer, I encourage my clients to not be embarrassed, but talk to a professional to help you overcome and be uncluttered in life.
